FRI  We set off this morning for County Durham, and the centrally located Radisson Blu Hotel in the heart of Durham, home for the next five nights. 

SAT  Your fantastic location allows you to discover the captivating medieval city of Durham at your own pace today. This is the jewel in the crown of an extraordinary county and a wonderful place to explore, with ancient winding streets packed with history, culture and stunning architecture, including the magnificent Norman Castle and Cathedral. This evening we head off to the highlight of our tour, Kynren, which provides an unforgettable experience taking audiences on a thrilling adventure through 2,000 years of history. Performed by a 1,000-strong cast and crew on a 7.5-acre outdoor stage, this live action spectacular delights and dazzles the senses, with its mix of hand-to-hand combat, daring stunts, incredible horsemanship, stunning pyrotechnics and amazing special effects. Kynren is a spellbinding experience delivering thrills, shocks, goosebumps and gasps on a cinematic scale.

SUN  After a leisurely breakfast this morning we head back to Bishop Auckland to visit the Bishop’s Palace, Faith Museum and surrounding gardens, which offer a fascinating insight into centuries of history, faith and culture in a stunning setting. Explore beautifully restored interiors, thought-provoking exhibitions and tranquil landscaped gardens, all while discovering the stories that have shaped the region through the ages.

MON  We step into history today at Raby Castle, one of England’s finest medieval fortresses, set within 200 acres of scenic parkland and beautifully landscaped gardens. The castle boasts grand interiors, a fascinating collection of art and antiques, and captivating stories of power and intrigue. On arrival, enjoy a guided tour of this fascinating castle, and then have time to explore at your leisure and maybe enjoy wildlife spotting in the deer park.

TUE  Take a step back in time today with a visit to the Living Museum of the North in Beamish, where the past is brought vividly to life. Nestling in 300 acres of beautiful countryside, visit Pockerley, with its stunning manor house and railway, and take a tram ride through a real Edwardian market town with its painstakingly and lovingly rebuilt houses.

WED   After breakfast we set off homewards, arriving back in the local area in the evening.
