MON  We set off this morning, heading north to the iconic seaside destination of Blackpool, with stops en route. We arrive at our seafront hotel in time for this evening’s dinner.

TUE  This morning, we make our way to Bowness-on-Windermere, often considered the gateway to the Lake District. We have some free time to explore this pretty town perched on the shores of Windermere before we embark on a scenic lake cruise to Lakeside, a scenic hamlet at the southern tip of the lake, located near Newby Bridge. After time to explore, we then continue on to Grange-over-Sands, an elegant Edwardian and Victorian coastal town on the north side of Morecambe Bay, known for its sweeping bay views, attractive promenade and relaxed atmosphere. With its charming gardens, independent shops and picturesque surroundings, it provides a delightful destination for a leisurely visit before we head back to our hotel in time for this evening’s dinner and entertainment.

WED  After this morning’s breakfast, we head to Lytham Hall, the finest Georgian house in Lancashire and once the ancestral home of the colourful Clifton family. We take a guided tour of this Grade I listed building and its 80 acres of parkland which date back to the 12th century when it was home to a priory of Benedictine monks. Sir Cuthbert Clifton built a Jacobean Manor House on this site in 1606, much of which still exists, and in 1752 Thomas Clifton commissioned John Carr of York to build the fine palladian house which we see today. We then return to our hotel via Lytham St Annes 

THU  We spend today at leisure in Blackpool. With your included local bus and tram pass you can access all that the area has to offer – stroll the famous promenade or Central Pier for stunning views over the golden beaches and Irish Sea, visit Showtown, the resort’s new all-singing, all dancing museum, soak up panoramic views from the top of the Blackpool Tower, browse the shops or simply relax in one of the many great restaurants, cafés or bars. This evening, we board our tram to explore the dazzling Blackpool illuminations, which will leave you in awe. From September to January, the town transforms into a wonderland of lights, with more than a million bulbs forming a shimmering sea of light. It’s a spectacle that you won’t want to miss!

FRI  It is time to head home today, arriving back in the local area in the evening.
