THU  We set off this morning making our way to Lancashire, with stops on the way for coffee and lunch. Overlooking the beach in Lytham St Annes, our hotel enjoys a prime seafront position just moments from the town centre. The hotel blends comfortable bedrooms, many with sweeping views of the Irish sea, with relaxed dining in its Coast brasserie.

FRI  After breakfast this morning in our hotel, we head off for a fantastic festive guided tour of Leighton Hall. Set within 1,200 acres, forming around 10% of the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Leighton Hall has been the home of the Gillow family, the renowned furniture-making dynasty of Lancaster, since 1822. On this candlelight tour, the hall is dressed for the Christmas season, showcasing its collection of Gillow furniture. Guests are encouraged to interact with the furniture rather than view it from behind ropes. We then enjoy coffee, tea, mince pies and biscuits in the tearoom before returning to our hotel.

SAT  We have a day at leisure today in Blackpool where there are many attractions to enjoy including the world-famous ballroom – perhaps enjoy a dance while the organists entertain you. Other options include the Tower Dungeons, the Sea Life Centre with its giant turtles and sharks, or take a trip to the top of the Tower. The choice is yours! This evening, we step aboard the East Lancashire railway and enjoy a four course, silver served festive inspired dinner, on this seasonally decorated Pullman-style train for a journey through the scenic Irwell Valley. With polished panelling, luxurious furnishings, and crisp linen it’s a perfect way to dine while enjoying traditional Christmas fare and getting into the spirit of the season! The railway’s vintage carriages featured as Winston Churchill’s mobile office in Peaky Blinders, and its tracks also appeared in the famous train chase from Paddington 2. With a dedicated waiter throughout the evening, this Christmas rail journey offers a relaxed and atmospheric way to celebrate the season. 

SUN  We head home today, stopping en route for coffee and lunch before returning to the local area in the evening.
