FRI  After an early start this morning, we head off to Dover where we board our ferry for the crossing to Dunkirk. From here we continue our journey to our hotel, arriving in time for this evening’s dinner.

SAT  After this morning’s breakfast we have a full day at leisure in the captivating city of Bonn, a charming city on the banks of the Rhine, offering a delightful blend of history, culture and scenic beauty. Your centrally located hotel is a fifteen minute walk from the main market square, and Bonn’s Christmas Market is a magical destination during the festive season, with the city centre transformed into a sparkling winter wonderland. Traditional wooden stalls line the streets, offering handcrafted gifts, festive decorations and local delicacies, while the scent of roasted chestnuts, gingerbread and mulled wine fills the air. Twinkling lights and seasonal music create a warm and welcoming atmosphere, making it the perfect place to soak up the spirit of Christmas. The historic surroundings add to the market’s appeal, providing a picturesque backdrop for festive celebrations.

SUN  We spend today exploring the fabulous Christmas markets in Cologne, set around the picturesque old town and glorious Gothic Cologne Cathedral, savouring the sights, sounds and tempting aromas of a traditional German market. Spread across multiple locations, the most famous is the Cathedral market which is guaranteed to get you feeling jolly with the rows of red wooden stalls and the colossal Cathedral as its backdrop. The Harbour Christmas Market, situated right next to the Chocolate Museum allows you to marvel at the gorgeous boats while you browse the pointed-roof tents. In the Neumarkt you’ll find the enchanting Market of Angels, the oldest in the city, with white huts and an angel theme. The Rudolfplatz hosts the fairytale Nikolaudorf Market with its festival stage for various acts and events happening throughout the day. The Old Town Market is a traditional treat – enjoy the sounds of carols, hunt for souvenirs or glide around the ice rink, and if you prefer a quieter option away from the busy crowds, Stadtgarten Market is held in the municipal garden where festive music creates an idyllic atmosphere.

MON  We head back to Dunkirk this morning for our ferry crossing back to Dover, and arrive back in the local area in the early evening.
