DAY 1 After an early start we catch the ferry from Dover then go on to our overnight hotel.
DAY 2 Today we continue into Austria, before arriving at our hotel in the town of Hipping.
DAY 3 After a leisurely breakfast, we make our way to the station in the village and join the little train down to the lake of Attersee, with time for a cruise on the north part of the lake before returning by train to the village. This afternoon there is free time for you to explore the village or just relax around the hotel.
DAY 4 Today we have a full day tour of the Lake District of Austria, taking a spectacular drive through the mountains and lakes. We visit the lake of Mondsee and the beautiful village where the church which was used for the wedding scene of Maria and Von Trapp in the Sound of Music film is situated. We continue to the Wolfgangsee, passing the picturesque lakeside town of St Gilgen, the birthplace of Mozart’s mother and continue to the town of St Wolfgang said to be the prettiest of all villages in the area and also home to the famous White Horse Inn.
DAY 5 We head to Salzburg today, said to be one of Europe’s most beautiful and historic cities. You may wish to visit Mozart’s birthplace, the Mirabel Palace, the mighty Hohensalzburg Fortress (reached by funicular railway) or the Catacombs. For the less energetic you can enjoy a pony and trap ride, or just relax in a cafe on the historic “Getreidegasse”.
DAY 6 This morning we head to the spa town of Bad Ischl, home of emperors and composers. You may choose to visit the lovely Kaiser Villa where Emperor Franz Joseph spent most of his summers. In the afternoon we head to Hallstatt, a UNESCO World Heritage site built on the side of Lake Hallstattersee, said to be one of the most beautiful villages in Austria.
DAY 7 Today we make our way to the lake of Traunsee, stopping at the spa resort of Gmunden, a small town which sits at the edge of Lake Traunsee and is used as a summer health retreat for Austrians. We then head back for free time in our resort this afternoon.
DAY 8 We depart Austria today and travel to our final overnight hotel in Germany.
DAY 9 We travel back to Calais for the ferry crossing to Dover, then continue home.
