FRI  We set off this morning, heading west, and en route to our hotel we visit the great estate at Killerton. This fine 18th-century house is surrounded by parkland; step inside and explore the country residence of Sir Francis Acland, 14th Baronet, all beautifully dressed for Christmas in keeping with the period style. The chapel hosts a display of community-decorated Christmas trees, there will be festive offerings in the café and restaurant on site – and don’t forget the goodies in the shop and plant centre for some Christmas gift ideas.

We then continue on to our hotel where we will have an early dinner before heading off for a visit to the Carols event at Kents Cavern. This is a truly unique festive experience, combining the magic of Christmas with the atmosphere of one of Britain’s most remarkable prehistoric caves. As you journey through the illuminated cavern, the sound of traditional carols echoes through the ancient chambers, creating a memorable and enchanting setting. Enjoy mulled wine and nibbles before the live choir concert, which is followed by lounge music in the festive café. The event captures the warmth and joy of the season, offering a wonderful opportunity to enjoy festive music in a spectacular natural environment – it is a delightful way to celebrate Christmas and enjoy an unforgettable seasonal outing.

SAT  After breakfast this morning we begin our homeward journey, calling in at Exeter en route, which is a delightful destination to visit in December when the city is filled with festive charm and seasonal atmosphere. The historic streets are adorned with Christmas lights, while the popular Christmas market offers over a hundred festive chalets, global street food and themed bars, championing West Country produce and local hand-crafted gifts. You may also wish to explore the magnificent cathedral and explore its amazing architecture, enjoy the cosy cafés and independent shops, or simply soak up the welcoming ambience as the city celebrates the festive season. We then return to the coach and continue our journey home, arriving back in the early evening.
