THU We set off this morning from the local area and head for Nottingham, stopping for coffee and a leisurely lunch en route.
FRI After breakfast this morning, we head off to join Robin Hood for a multi award winning adventure around Nottingham. See the Castle which isn’t a castle, learn about the city’s history and take a stroll around the Lace Market, the Victorian heart of the Queen of the Midlands. Following the tour we then have free time in Nottingham to explore at leisure.
SAT Today we visit Chatsworth House, which is like stepping into a living piece of English history. Nestled in the heart of the Derbyshire countryside, this grand stately home is the seat of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire and has been passed down through 16 generations of the Cavendish family. The house itself is a masterpiece of Baroque architecture, filled with an extraordinary collection of art, including works by Rembrandt, Reynolds, and modern installations that blend seamlessly with its historical interiors. Beyond the house, the surrounding estate is just as impressive. The 105-acre garden, designed over centuries by some of the finest landscape architects, is a tranquil yet awe-inspiring space. Explore intricately designed fountains, a maze, a Victorian rock garden, and sweeping views of the Derbyshire Dales. The River Derwent gently flows through the parkland, adding to the idyllic charm.
SUN We head to Newstead Abbey this morning, for a guided tour of this former monastic abbey and home of Lord Byron. From the famed Romantic poet through to Medieval, Gothic Revival and Victorian Revival, Newstead Abbey is a treasure trove of the rare, beautiful and historically significant. Boasting 300 acres of parkland, explore the gardens, lake and beautiful estate during your visit.
MON We leave our hotel after breakfast this morning, heading back home. On the way, we call in to the wonderful city of Warwick, famous for its magnificent castle, superb specialist independent shops, historic charm and a fantastic range of places to eat and drink, where you will have time to browse and explore before we continue our journey home.
