DAY I We travel to Llandrindod Wells for a four night stay. On the way, we visit the Brecon Mountain Railway for a return journey through the beautiful Brecon scenery, taking in Pontsticill and the Taf Feehan Reservoir before climbing to Torpantau high in the Brecon Beacons. We then rejoin the coach to continue our journey, reaching the hotel with time to settle in before our evening meal.
DAY 2 Experience the beautiful and diverse scenery of the Brecon Beacons National Park today. During the day, explore Brecon, with its medieval cathedral and narrow streets full of craft and antique shops, and enjoy a relaxing cruise through a lock and over an aqueduct on the historical Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal, a fantastic feat of engineering which runs through the Brecon Beacons National Park. A buffet lunch is included on the cruise, which you can enjoy whilst meandering through the Welsh countryside.
DAY 3 Escape to Elan Valley and its visitor centre, a world away from normal life, for a coach guided tour of this beautiful and unspoilt area made even more compelling by the dams and reservoirs, which together create a wonderful living landscape.Your estate tour will be lead by one of the Rangers, who will come on board and give you an insight into this nature haven. You will then have time to explore the Visitor Centre, set in a fantastic location against a spectacular backdrop of a Victorian stone dam. This afternoon, we head to Gigrin Farm, a 160 acre farm overlooking the Wye and Elan Valleys which is famous for its red kite feeding centre. Hundreds of red kites feed here every afternoon, and it is a truly breathtaking spectacle to witness this from the hides, just a few metres away from these magnificent birds.
DAY 4 Today we head to the Ceredigion Heritage Coast and the Victorian seaside resort of Aberystwyth. This town is home to beaches, a lovely promenade, a funicular railway, castle ruins and the National Library of Wales, so there is plenty to see and do. This afternoon, we enjoy an unforgettable and nostalgic journey through some wonderful scenery on the Vale of Rheidol narrow gauge steam railway. Our destination is Devil’s Bridge, home to the famous Mynach Falls and Devil’s Punchbowl, where you may glimpse some birds of prey soaring above the valley.
DAY 5 Time to bid farewell today, stopping in Bath for lunch on the journey home.
