MON We board our comfortable coach this morning and, with stops en route, make our way to the Riverside Hotel in Kendal, our home for the next four nights.
TUE This morning, we head out for a scenic drive past Lake Windermere, Thirlmere Reservoir and then Bassenthwaite Lake. We then experience the art of whisky-making with a guided tour and tasting at The Lakes Distillery, set in a beautifully restored Victorian farmstead. Learn about the meticulous craft behind their award-winning spirits, including whisky, gin, and vodka, followed by a tutored tasting. Surrounded by the stunning Cumbrian countryside, it’s a must-visit for lovers of fine spirits and local heritage. After our visit, we call into Grasmere, a picturesque village in the heart of the Lake District, famed for its poetic charm and stunning scenery, with tranquil lakeside walks, artisan shops, and a warm village atmosphere. We head back to our hotel via the vibrant town of Ambleside, bursting with charm and natural beauty.
WED We make our way to Haverthwaite Station this morning, where we enjoy a short heritage rail journey on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway. No visit to the Lake District would be complete without a cruise, and it is from Lakeside that you will sail across Lake Windmere to the popular village of Bowness. After disembarking, you will have time to explore at your leisure. There are cafés, restaurants, shops and attractions such as the World of Beatrix Potter to explore during your visit, before returning to the hotel.
THU Today we discover the charm of Holker Hall and Gardens, a magnificent stately home owned by Lord and Lady Cavendish, nestled in the heart of the Lake District. Explore 25 acres of award-winning gardens, historic woodlands, and beautifully restored Victorian glasshouses situated only a short distance from Grange-over-Sands and the expanse of Morecambe Bay. It is set in exceptionally beautiful countryside with gardens that merge into parkland, framed by the Lakeland Hills. We then head back to our hotel, with time to spend at leisure in Kendal before this evening’s dinner.
FRI It is time to head for home today, with stops on the journey, and we arrive back in the local area in the early evening.
