DAY I Head towards London and the leafy riverside village of Shepperton set beside the majestic River Thames for a three night stay. We visit the wonderful Poppy Factory, where you can see how veterans still make Royal and regimental wreaths by hand today. Have a go at making your own poppy and enjoy an afternoon tea-break with fresh cakes from the in-house bakery.
DAY 2 Enjoy a full day in London today. The coach will drop off and pick up in three locations. From the Park Lane drop off point you can conveniently access London’s excellent shopping districts around Oxford Street, or visit the 350 acres of Hyde Park. Our Covent Garden drop off point gives you easy access to the shopping and entertainment hub in London’s West End – visit the craft stalls in the Apple Market, see the street entertainers perform by the 17th century St Paul’s Church, or maybe visit the London Transport Museum with its fascinating overview of London’s transport history and collection of vintage vehicles. Our final drop off on the Embankment is convenient for the London Eye and Westminster where you might want to visit the iconic Abbey, or take a tour around the Houses of Parliament. You can also use London’s excellent transport links to make your way around the capital before we pick you up again in the late afternoon to return to the hotel for dinner.
DAY 3 We head to Greenwich today. Known for its maritime history, it is home to the restored 19th century ship Cutty Sark, the classical buildings of the Old Royal Navy College and the Royal Observatory which overlooks Greenwich Park. We start the day with a visit to the National Maritime Museum, the largest of its kind in the world, filled with stories of exploration at sea, intriguing objects and fascinating galleries. You are then free to explore at your leisure before heading back to the hotel.
DAY 4 Head to the lovely National Trust site of Runnymede and Ankerwycke this morning, the charming Thames side location that witnessed King John’s historic sealing of the Magna Carta over 800 years ago. Enjoy time to view the memorials, including ones for John F Kennedy and the Commonwealth Air Forces, and perhaps enjoy a coffee and cake at the Magna Carta Tearoom before boarding your nearby cruise upstream towards wonderful Windsor, travelling through the Castle’s grounds themselves. On arrival, enjoy time to browse the lovely shops and cafes before heading for home.
