MON  We head off this morning and make our way to Charlecote Park, a Victorian home overlooking the River Avon on the edge of Stratford,  which was transformed in the 1800s into one of the finest examples of Elizabethan Revival style by its owners. We then continue on to Knutsford, where a warm Cheshire welcome awaits you at your lovely hotel.

TUE  After this morning’s breakfast, we head to Quarry Bank, a working mill set in picturesque gardens and countryside where you can discover a complete industrial community and experience the very different worlds of owner and worker, who lived and worked here side by side. Explore the Greg family home, Quarry Bank House, and wander through the stunning picturesque gardens that rise up the banks of the river valley, offering stunning views and spectacular changes through the seasons. By contrast, take a guided tour of the Apprentice House to step into the lives of the pauper children who worked in the mill. 

WED  We head to Biddulph Grange Garden this morning, considered a masterpiece of Victorian garden design. Take a global journey from Egyptian pyramids, a Himalayan Glen through an Italian Garden to a Victorian vision of China. We then head to Little Moreton Hall, an iconic timber-framed Tudor manor house, curled around by a scenic moat and Elizabethan-style manicured knot garden. Step back in time inside this higgledy-piggledy house and discover what everyday Tudor life tells us about the way we live today.

THU  Nestling on the edge of the Peak District, we visit Lyme today, once home to the Legh family and in its heyday a great sporting estate. The 1,400 acre estate with its medieval herd of red deer offers fantastic walks and stunning views. Explore the elegant Rose Garden, Ravine Garden or the luxurious herbaceous borders next to the reflecting lake where Mr Darcy met Miss Bennet in the BBC production of ‘Pride and Prejudice’. Head in to the house to step back in time to the Regency era – a time of great rejuvenation for Lyme. 

FRI  We head for home today, stopping on the way at the secluded, intimate estate of Baddesley Clinton in the heart of the Forest of Arden. The house was a sanctuary for persecuted Catholics who were hidden from priest hunters in its secret hiding places during the 1590s. We then arrive back in the local area this evening.
