MON This morning we head off towards King’s Lynn for our four night stay at the striking Duke’s Head Hotel, with stops on the way for coffee and lunch.
TUE Spend the day sailing and steaming across ‘Britain’s Magical Waterland’, the Norfolk Broads, and navigate a landscape of serene natural beauty. Delight in a nostalgic steam train journey through the picturesque Bure Valley from Aylsham to Wroxham, on Norfolk’s longest narrow-gauge railway, rumbling through unspoilt countryside and idyllic villages. Cruise aboard a Mississippi Paddle Steamer, winding your way under 17 bridges, alongside charming thatched cottages, timeless windmills, and forgotten churches, with reed beds rich in local wildlife enhancing your journey.
WED Today we take a breathtaking glimpse of the Jacobean masterpiece Blickling Estate, emerging amongst 4,600 acres of magnificent Norfolk countryside, renowned for its award winning conservation efforts. Uncover the life of Philip Kerr, the estate’s last private owner, who was pivotal in shaping the National Trust, and the estate’s storied past as a WWII RAF base and Anne Boleyn’s birthplace. Stroll through Blickling’s 300-year-old formal gardens and unearth impressive forestry efforts, enriching the landscape with new woodlands as part of the Trust’s 20 million tree initiative, where you can encounter diverse wildlife from ancient trees to native bluebells and vibrant wildflower meadows.
THU Today we have a one-of-a-kind opportunity to experience an expert-led safari tour of some of the world’s most endangered species of deer, antelope, and birds. Prioritising animal welfare, your trailer ride through Watatunga’s breathtaking 170 acres gets up close and personal with the animals thriving in their natural-like habitats – grazing on rich grasslands, sipping water from the lake, or camouflaged among the woodland floor. Meet the owner (or manager) and uncover their inspiring conservation efforts to protect the incredible wildlife from extinction, earning them Visit Britain’s prestigious award for best new EcoTourism Spot. Cap off your adventure with exquisite local WhataHoot gin and refreshments, served with a side of spectacular scenery.
FRI It’s time to head for home today, arriving back in the local area in the early evening.
