MON This morning we head west, and stop in the delightful town of Sherborne, where we take a guided tour of Sherborne Abbey, which offers a fascinating insight into the history and life of the Abbey, and is led by one of their knowledgeable guides. We then have time to explore Sherborne before continuing our journey where we escape to the heart of Somerset and live the good life at our beautiful manor house hotel, surrounded by gardens designed by Capability Brown. During your stay, explore the grounds, which include the 12th century Church of Cricket St Thomas, or enjoy lake views while you unwind in elegant lounges and tea rooms that famously featured in the television sitcom ‘To The Manor Born’. Dive into activities like archery or rifle shooting and enjoy unmissable evening entertainment. TUE Join us this morning as we make our way to Wells, England’s smallest city, famous for its exquisite cathedral and Bishop’s Palace. The high street is lined with an array of interesting shops and cosy cafés where you can browse and then enjoy lunch. We return to our hotel with the afternoon free to relax and make use of the many facilities before dinner followed by this evening’s excellent entertainment.
WED We visit Haynes Motor Museum today, where you can explore the UK’s largest collection of cars featuring more than 300 rare, classic and iconic vehicles from around the world. Housed within 15 exhibition areas, its vast collection spans everything from the birth of motoring and nostalgic classics of the 50s and 60s, to glorious Bentleys and Rolls Royces and stunning modern super cars.
THU Today we head out to Taunton, Somerset’s county town. During your visit, you may wish to visit Taunton Castle, which is a Grade I listed Scheduled Ancient Monument in the heart of the town and is home to the Museum of Somerset. This free entry museum charts the fascinating story of Somerset from prehistoric times to the present day. We then return back to the hotel this afternoon to relax before dinner and the evening’s entertainment.
FRI We head for home after breakfast today, calling at Dorchester on the way, and arriving home in the late afternoon.
