DAY 2 Enjoy time to explore elegant Southport from your central hotel today, well known for its parks and gardens. We start the day with a visit to the Botanic Gardens in Churchtown, just a few minutes away from the hotel. Originally opened in 1874, these Victorian gardens are bursting with floral splendour and colourful displays.Winding through the park is the garden’s lake and a multitude of pathways. Don’t miss the Victorian Fernery, open all year round, it houses a wonderful display of ferns of all shapes and sizes. We then make our way to Crosby Beach, to see the ‘Another Place’ statues. These spectacular sculptures by Antony Gormley consist of I00 cast-iron, life-size figures spread out along three kilometres of the foreshore, stretching almost one kilometre out to sea, and are a sight to behold. We then make our way back to Southport where you have time to explore the area at your leisure. Southport Pier is the second longest and the oldest iron pier in England, and a walk to the end or a trip on the pier tram offers views across to Blackpool and the North Wales coast. For a more unusual attraction visit the British Lawnmower Museum – the only museum of its kind in the world!
DAY 3 We start the day with a fascinating two hour coach guided tour of Liverpool. Marvel at the history, heritage and architecture of this vibrant city. Enjoy time to explore at your own pace, with two cathedrals, historic waterfront including the Albert Dock, Tate Liverpool, Maritime Museum, Beatles Story and Pier Head, home to the affectionately titled Three Graces and the magnificent Royal Liver Building – there’s something of interest for everyone.
DAY 4 After a leisurely morning, and a three course lunch served at the hotel, we head to Blackpool – a place that needs no introduction. Whether you want to eat fish & chips on the famous promenade overlooking miles of sandy beach, take afternoon tea in Blackpool Tower or experience the thrills of the Pleasure Beach, there is something for everyone to enjoy. This evening we board the coach for a drive through the famous illuminations – the greatest free light show on Earth before heading back for our final night in Southport.
