SUN  We set off northwards this morning to our overnight hotel in Preston.

MON  This morning we head to the Falkirk Wheel, an amazing feat of engineering which connects the Forth & Clyde Canal with the Union Canal. We enjoy a boat trip on this amazing rotating boat lift before continuing on to our mainstay hotel.

TUE  Today we explore the city of Stirling, once the ancient capital of Scotland, on a guided walking tour. Your knowledgeable guide will help you to discover Stirling’s Old Town with its medieval streets and walk in the footsteps of Mary Queen of Scots, William Wallace and Robert the Bruce whilst you hear the tales of battles, kings and queens who shaped this city and Scotland itself.  After your tour, you have time at leisure to explore the city at your own pace. Why not visit the Castle, considered to be one of the grandest of all Scotland’s castles, or perhaps head back to the hotel to relax and make use of the lovely spa facilities. 

WED  Loch Lomond is quite simply one of Scotland’s most inspiring lochs. Visit Balloch, an enchanting town on the southern shores of the loch, home to the Loch Lomond Shores Visitor Centre. Sit back and relax on a wonderfully scenic one hour Loch Lomond cruise, before heading to the lovely village of Luss, which was famously the location in the Scottish TV series ‘Take the High Road’. 

THU  Today we visit the Royal Highland Show, an exciting and memorable experience that celebrates the best of Scottish farming, food, and rural life. As you walk around the showgrounds, you can see impressive livestock competitions, watch skilled demonstrations, and explore hundreds of stalls selling local produce, crafts, and agricultural equipment. There are also entertaining events such as horse displays, sheepdog trials, and live music, making it enjoyable for visitors of all ages. One of the highlights is tasting traditional Scottish foods and learning about the country’s farming heritage. 

FRI  We begin our homeward journey today, calling in at the historic market town of Dumfries, famous for its links to Robert Burns, before spending our final night in Preston.

SAT  We continue south today, returning to the local area in the early evening.
