Threatened with closure in the 1980s, it was eventually saved after an orchestrated public campaign and now makes for a picturesque train ride through some spectacular scenery along its length. At either end of your journey you will have time to explore the traditional bustling market towns that sit in this beautiful area around the Yorkshire Dales.
DAY 3 Travel into Yorkshire this morning to the friendly market town of Skipton for its ever-popular Wednesday market. Stall holders and shoppers barter with each other along the high street close to the town’s impressive medieval castle. Join in the fun, pick up a bargain and explore the lovely town centre, before taking to the water on an historic relaxing cruise along the Leeds-Liverpool Canal.Your on-board guide will take you on a whistle-stop tour of Skipton and share canal history that’s refreshingly different from your average commentary. Refreshments will be served during your one hour cruise, while
you hear about points of interest and how the Leeds-Liverpool Canal delivered the lifeblood of the industrial revolution through Yorkshire.
DAY 4 After a leisurely breakfast, enjoy time to explore the hotel’s facilities and parkland setting before we head off to the historic hilltop town of Haworth, nestled in the stunning South Pennines. Popular for its close ties with the famous Bronte Sisters, this undisputed literary mecca is also home to the Bronte Parsonage Museum, which is the former Bronte family home. With its historic cobbled Main Street, iconic parsonage and rolling moors, the picturesque proportions of this Airedale village exude a vintage charm that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into another era.
