Accessible only at low tide, Lindisfarne provides a truly memorable experience blending natural beauty and cultural richness. See the ruins of Lindisfarne Priory, a cradle of early Christianity, with its rich spiritual history and breathtaking coastal setting nestled on the peaceful Holy Island. We explore the dramatic coastal stronghold of Bamburgh Castle, perched high on a cliff with breathtaking views over the North Sea. Steeped in history and offering panoramic sea
views, it’s a must-see highlight of any visit to the region.
WED We set off this morning along George Wade’s ‘Military Road’, tracing the path of Hadrian’s Wall to Chesters Roman Fort, set in the valley of the River Tyne. Part of Hadrian’s Wall, here you can stroll around the site which is the best-preserved Roman cavalry fort in Britain. We then make our way to the charming market town of Hexham, with its historic abbey, quaint streets, and welcoming atmosphere nestled in the heart of the Tyne Valley, where you can explore at your leisure. We head back to our hotel via Corbridge, a quiet Northumberland town with a vast history and a Roman heritage that can still be seen today.
THU Today we experience the magic of Alnwick with a visit to both the spectacular Alnwick Castle and its enchanting gardens. Wander through the vibrant Alnwick Garden, home to the famous Poison Garden, cascading fountains, and the world’s largest treehouse restaurant. Then step back in time at Alnwick Castle, exploring grand state rooms and medieval towers that have featured in films and TV shows including Harry Potter and Downton Abbey.
