FRI We set off early this morning for Dover, where we board the ferry over to Calais and continue on to our hotel, arriving in time for dinner.
SAT This morning, we enjoy free time relaxing at our hotel followed by our three course main meal at lunchtime. In the mid-afternoon, we journey to the beautiful royal and imperial town of Fontainebleau, with the opportunity to visit the Château and gardens if you wish. In the early evening, we then make our way to the magnificent Château Vaux-le-Vicomte where we spend the evening exploring the magical estate in soft lighting – as night falls, marvel at the gardens illuminated by thousands of candles! Discover the French-style gardens designed by Le Nôtre, bathed in a flickering glow – this is an enchanting experience.
SUN Today we enjoy a guided tour of the Palace and Gardens of Versailles, considered to be one of the most magnificent achievements of 18th century French architecture and design, and France’s most famous château. Discover the breathtaking grandeur of this UNESCO World Heritage site, marvel at the opulent Hall of Mirrors, where history was made amid glittering chandeliers and gilded walls and stroll through the meticulously landscaped gardens, adorned with elegant fountains, sculptures, and flowerbeds. Whether you’re a history lover or a nature enthusiast, Versailles offers an unforgettable journey into French royal splendour.
MON After a leisurely morning in the hotel, we travel to Monet’s country retreat in Giverny where we visit the impressionist painter’s charming pink house and gardens, the inspiration behind many of the artist’s iconic paintings. We can then relax in the gardens at our leisure, wander through vibrant flowerbeds bursting with colour and charm in the Clos Normand, and admire the Japanese bridge and famous waterlily pond. Later, we travel to the pretty neighbouring village of Vernon and discover over 200 half-timbered houses with ancient doors and carved timbers, wrought iron shop signs, cobbled paths and the famous Old Mill. We spend the afternoon at leisure exploring the church, museums, village and banks of the River Seine.
TUE After breakfast we begin our journey home, via the ferry from Dover to Calais.
