DAY 1 We set off this morning and make our way north, with stops en route for coffee and lunch. We arrive at our hotel in the centre of Harrogate in time for this evening’s dinner.
DAY 2 This morning is free for you to explore delightful Harrogate at your own pace. The wonderfully central location of the hotel in Harrogate’s Montpellier Quarter is just a few minutes’ walk from the major attractions, including the picturesque town centre with its antique shops and richly historic Victorian arcades. Wander around the Valley Gardens, have a relaxing lunch in one of the many restaurants, cafes or bars, enjoy a spot of retail therapy or maybe visit the famous Betty’s Tea Rooms. In the late afternoon we travel the short distance to RHS Harlow Carr where the gardens have been spectacularly decorated with light displays. Wander the enchanting trail around the garden and see some of the iconic features such as Streamside, the Queen Mother’s Lake, Winter Walk, Doric Columns and the Kitchen Garden glow up with festive sparkle and magic. From magnificent trees bathed in brilliant colour to shimmering shrubs and water feature ‘wow moments’, there are captivating views and magical effects to discover at every turn.
DAY 3 Today we have a full day to explore the historic city of York. Make the most of the city and enjoy the festive atmosphere of the York Christmas Market. With Alpine chalets lining the streets, the market offers a magical array of local crafts, artisan products, and delicious seasonal treats. The vintage carousel on King’s Square adds to the festive atmosphere, and the city will be beautifully decorated and provide a wonderful winter experience. You can wander past the old shops of the Shambles, one of the best-preserved medieval shopping streets in Europe, or enjoy the fashionable shops of Parliament Street. You may wish to take time to visit the spectacular York Minster itself, one of the world’s most magnificent cathedrals, or perhaps discover iconic locomotives and an unrivalled collection of engineering brilliance at the National Railway Museum. You could even travel back to the year 975 AD at the Jorvik Viking Centre with its lifelike mannequins and life-size dioramas depicting Viking life in the city.
DAY 4 After breakfast, we leave our hotel and make our way home, stopping en route for comfort breaks and to have lunch before we complete our journey.
