MON  We set off this morning heading north with stops on the way to our lovely hotel. We arrive in time for our evening meal. 

TUE  This morning we have time at leisure in the hotel to explore the fantastic facilities. This exceptional, historic hotel is set in 45 acres of glorious parkland and has a library, indoor swimming pool, gym, croquet lawn, tennis courts, putting green and boules courts, freshwater angling lake, archery range and a games room – so there is plenty to do! In the afternoon, we enjoy a visit to the elegant spa town of Harrogate, renowned for its beautiful gardens, charming streets and impressive Victorian architecture. Take time to explore the delightful shops and cafés, stroll through the picturesque town centre or simply soak up the relaxed atmosphere – and a visit the famous Betty’s Tea Rooms is a must!

WED  Today we head off for a day in the magnificent city of York. You may like to visit the iconic minster and climb the 275 steps to the tower for a panoramic view across the city. Other attractions include the Jorvik Centre, the Chocolate Story, and the National Railway Museum where you can discover over 300 years of railway history and marvel at some of the most iconic trains and carriages from our past. Take a leisurely boat cruise along the River Ouse or jump on a sight-seeing bus with on-board commentary of York’s history. Together with plenty of cafes and restaurants to enjoy lunch, and a large shopping district, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

THU  After a leisurely breakfast we travel a little further north to Thirsk, a small Market Town mentioned in the Domesday book. The cobbled Market Place dates from medieval times and is still the centre of the town. Whilst here we visit the award-winning James Herriot Museum, in the house he actually lived in and used as his surgery. Here we discover the real James Herriot (Alf Wight), beloved Yorkshire vet and author of All Creatures Great and Small. After lunch we return to our hotel with time to spend as you please and make further use of the wonderful facilities. Dinner this evening will be followed by a final evening’s entertainment.

FRI  It is time to bid farewell to Yorkshire this morning, as we set off homewards after breakfast, arriving back in the local area in the evening.
